A Lesson in Tweed for Chanel’s Fall-Winter 2022/23 Ready to Wear Collection

Punchy pinks, ocean blues, and deeply saturated purples ruled the catwalk at CHANEL’s Fall-Winter RTW 202223 show. The entire collection is an homage to tweed. Consumers will be hard-pressed to find a collection made entirely of one single fabric (although we may see this trend more, as Valentino just presented an all-pink collection.)

“We followed the footsteps of Gabrielle Chanel along the River Tweed, to imagine tweeds in the colours of this landscape. Like that of a long pink coat mottled with blue and purple, or a burgundy suit with a delicate gold shimmer.—Virginie Viard.

The collection was presented inside the Grand Palais Éphémère. Audiences will see the brand push the envelope with trippy colorways and psychedelic prints. Standouts are a rainbow striped coat and a long tri-color pink robe, showcased in Look 1.

Virginie concludes her musings about the newest collection by saying, “Allowing for infinite combinations of colours and materials, tweed is an eternal code for the House: “I love working with it so much, I couldn’t live without it at CHANEL.” Although we can see new offerings, the CHANEL keepsake is still prominently apparent in the craftsmanship and overall beauty of the pieces. Whether adjusted to the times or classic, CHANEL is here to stay.
