Salvatore Ferragamo deconstructs the conventions of casual fashion in their Autumn/Winter 2022 Show

Salvatore Ferragamo takes a boldly colored (think cherry red) approach to simplicity. While other brands are beginning to show more formal evening wear, Ferragamo has chosen to push the envelope on how to present casual wear within a luxury line. How does one do so, you may ask? Reinventing cut-outs, use of color, fabrications, and a no-frills take on fashion is what Ferragamo presents.

Womenswear pieces feature dramatic ruffles, an evening wear staple, but expressed in versatile knit. A traditional evening wear shape is interpreted unconventionally in supple strips of shaved by-product shearling.[…] In Menswear the skeleton of a formal silhouette is retained by unnecessary complexity pared back in softly constructed jackets with inserted gilets.

“Informality” is the focus of the collection. No matter the design, each piece has a level of accessibility that will surely appeal to many customers. 

As far as accessories go, The Ferragamo Studio bag is offered in different sizes and materials, such as blown-up crocodile effect. A bucket bag featuring the timeless Gancini closure is offered in various color ways, including Ghiacciaio Blue, Nebbia Green, Agrifoglio Blue, Rafia, Aghi Green, and Amaretti Pink. 

Additionally, a new half-moon shaped bag is presented, featuring a substantial interlocked leather-clad chain. Shoes are kept simple with a retro running style reminiscent of the house’s 1938 Rainbow shoe. A new combat boot shines amongst offerings such as snow boots, moccasins, and hikers.

Both genders access an ironic and eye-opening playfulness focused on scale and proportion, in which wide-aperture exaggerated striping and unorthodox patching combine to replace the “smartness” of formality with the irony and intelligence of “informality”.
