Hikari Mori finds her center in the traditions of her rich Japanese heritage
With a career spanning over ten years, 30-year-old Japanese fashion model and talent Hikari Mori has appeared on Japanese television shows, and participated as a guest judge on Netflix’s cooking show The Final Table.
Hikari has worked with countless brands over the years such as Shiseido, Michael Kors, Coca-Cola, Fendi, and CHANEL — shooting commercials, participating in campaigns, and making guest appearances at special events and ceremonies in Tokyo. Throughout her career, she won multiple awards in her home country including the Asia Model Festival Japan Artist Award in 2015, Best Beauty Award in 2016, Japan Fashion Editors Club Celebrity of the Year and Model of the Year in 2017, VOGUE JAPAN Woman of the Year in 2018, and Bulgari Avrora Award in 2022.
Fashion runs in her family — the Tokyo- born model is the granddaughter of world- famous fashion designer Hanae Mori, who was the first Asian woman to be accepted as a member of La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Hikari attended the Met Gala in New York in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first Japanese native to appear at the prestigious fashion event, and more recently attended New York Fashion Week in fall 2022.
Since 2020, Hikari has started branching out into other projects — launching her Youtube channel during the pandemic to share her lifestyle and experiences with fans and becoming the creative director of her new company tefutefu, and lifestyle store CITY SHED. Recently we had the chance to catch up with Hikari over Zoom, where she talked about revisiting her Japanese roots, living a mindful and sustainable lifestyle, and finding her voice and life’s work.
