80’s Model Culture Nostalgia for Chanel Spring Summer 2022 Collection
With a sprawling black and white photo of model Vivienne Rohner taking a photo, the Chanel Spring Summer 2022 show commenced.
Simplistic approaches are taken when it comes to the offerings. There’s a very straightforward depiction of tank and overall swim sets that dominated the line.
Lily Rose-Depp, Whitney Peak, Rebecca Dayan, Jennie Kim, Kristen Stewart, and Soo-Joo Park were among the VIPs that attended the Chanel Spring Summer 2022 show.
“Because fashion is about clothes, models and photographers,” confides Virginie Viard. “Karl Lagerfeld used to photograph the CHANEL campaigns himself. Today, I call upon photographers. I love the way that they see CHANEL. It supports and inspires me.”
Rainbow candy-colored skirts and tweed short dresses are abundant throughout the collection with fishnet skirts, crochet jackets and denim suiting being the standouts.
Nostalgia of the 80’s—when models were virtually raised on the runway (a practice since denounced by the industry) was the goal. I wanted to recapture that emotion.” And recreate that type of runway at the Grand Palais Éphémère, a human-sized space whose atmosphere made her yearn for—Virginie Viard
Last but not least, the Spring Summer 2022 debut comes packed with 5 short films starring the likes of friends and models of the house including; Lily-Rose Depp, Alma Jodorowsky, Jennie Kim, Rebecca Dayan and Quannah Chasinghorse-Potts where all five women repeat a hand gesture—a camera in hand.
