It’s a Tweed Affair for CHANEL’s Spring-Summer 2023 Haute Couture Collection
CHANEL presented a straightforward approach to their SS ‘23 Haute Couture collection in part by approaching this particular offering with a past remedy that mixed architectural inspiration with fantastical whimsy. “For his third participation, I asked him to reinterpret the apartment’s bestiary and incorporate his own,” [Virginie Viard] says of Xavier Veilhan‘s starting point when beginning to sketch for the collection.
Flouncy minidresses, coat dresses, round-toe booties in white and gold colorways, easy jumpsuits, pleats, and plenty of signature tweed riddled the runway as models took their turn going down the scaled-down center stage surrounded by paper mache sequel huts and statues, where guests sat in attendance huddled on sports-reminiscent spectator-style bleachers.
The line was accompanied by a teaser video starring model Vivienne Rohner, in which a nature-filled path leads to the rue Cambon, which is available for global audiences to watch on Chanel.com.
As always, plenty of VIPs were on hand to enjoy the newest brainchild of the House including famed thespian Tilda Swinton, longtime House ambassador Marion Cotillard, model/singer Vanessa Paradis, actresses Sadie Sink and Lucy Boynton, up-and-coming fashionista Apple Martin (Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter), and director Baz Luhrmann.
