F1 drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri spotted in the new Levi’s x McLaren

There is an art to making a race car fit for the tracks and fast enough for victory. In the last 61 years, McLaren Racing has won 20 F1 (Formula One) world championships, 188 F1 Grands Prix, the Indianapolis 500 three times, and the Le Mans 24 Hours at its first attempt. It has an unparalleled mastery of the craft, constantly incorporating research and innovation to shave off seconds and milliseconds from its record timings. The front wing is optimized to be as aerodynamic as possible, the suspension is adjusted to dominate the road, and a carbon fibre seat is specifically molded to the body shape of its driver. Behind these motorsport masterpieces, there are vast teams of engineers and mechanics dedicated to excellence—from the early days of conception and design down to manufacturing, performance testing, and the big showdown on the circuit.

As Bruce McLaren, founder of McLaren Racing, famously said:

“To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one’s ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.”

In many ways, that is how Levi’s became one of the world’s largest brand-name apparel companies and a global leader in denim. Since it was invented in 1873, more than 150 years ago, Levi’s jeans have achieved status as an enduring icon of classic American style and spread around the globe as one of the most beloved garments. When it comes to finding the perfect pair of jeans down to the tiniest seam, there is no other choice but Levi’s. The fashion brand continues to evolve through a relentless pioneering and innovative spirit—without losing its roots of making high-quality, functional, and stylish garments for every size, age, and gender.

Therefore, it came as no surprise when Levi’s and McLaren Racing announced their partnership in July 2024, launching just in time for the British Grand Prix. Both brands have rich history and heritage, yet strive for innovation, always finding new ways to improve. Their first collaborative collection was a hit among fans of F1 and fashion. It consisted of vintage-inspired pieces with nostalgic elements from the 1980s, including graphics and co-branded patches with references to classic 80s McLaren cars and Heritage 501 jeans, on denim jackets, racing suits, soft tees, and bandanas.

By popular demand, Levi’s x McLaren Racing returns with its sophomore collection ahead of the Austin Grand Prix, running from October 18 to October 20, 2024. This capsule collection puts the focus on speed and performance in a more modern setting. A blend of sportswear and turn-of-the-century streetwear aesthetics, they present Second Skin, an orange long-sleeve mock neck with nods to McLaren Racing’s modular prints and a high-gloss, high-sheen look.

Relaxed fits are ubiquitous, especially with Levi’s jeans. Speed Jeans are based on the Baggy Dad loose fit, while the Sports 501® Jeans are modeled on the contemporary classic 501® ’93 Straight Fit—both accented with embroidery on the left leg and a black custom rubberized two-horse patch emulating a chassis plaque. The looser silhouette can also be found on the Fleece Hoodie, Track Trucker jacket (a reinterpretation of the classic bomber jacket), as well as the black Speed Trucker, which features a double-snap throat latch, a snap at the waistband, and self-piping that accentuates the style lines as a nod to traditional racing jackets.

Imbued with meaningful details, the collection also pays tribute to historic moments in both brands’ stories. The Constructors Tees feature laurels commemorating McLaren Racing’s wins over the years, both Bruce McLaren’s and Levi Strauss’ signatures, and a clamp label. The Graphic Tee features a photo print of a McLaren F1 car, a back neck and clamp label, and a side seam L tab. Capping off the collection is the Speed Bandana, a sateen oversized bandana that features the same McLaren F1 graphic, as well as a clamp label in the corner.

A well-made tool is only as powerful as its wielder. It is a truth embodied by Levi’s jeans when one dissects its long history. They were worn by cowboys, lumberjacks, and railroad workers in the 1920s, adopted by servicemen at war, and popularized by stars of Hollywood’s golden age through to the era of supermodels and hip-hop stars. The humble jean became more than a garment of comfort and function; it became a source of power and an avenue for people to express their personal style and individuality. That is why cultural icons such as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Kurt Cobain, Lauryn Hill, Beyoncé, and K-pop group New Jeans have found much strength and creative freedom in wearing Levi’s jeans.

With McLaren Racing and Levi’s partnership, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are two talented F1 drivers who join the lineup. Whether expertly navigating a multimillion-dollar race car on the track or putting together an off-duty ensemble, these literal trailblazers are always making an impact. That is why they are reprising their roles as the faces of the new Levi’s x McLaren Racing collection.

In this campaign, fans get an inside look at the duo’s style off the track, after claiming victories on the podium. Twenty-four-year-old Norris—whose ascent to the top of the motorsport racing world began after becoming the youngest World Championship winner in the CIK-FIA KF World Championships—shows his fondness for the Track Trucker jacket. He shares how he styles it with the Sports 501® Jeans and Constructors Tee as a monochromatic outfit, with the jacket’s bright orange lining acting as an eye-catching pop of color.

Meanwhile, newcomer Piastri, who made waves when he almost broke Lewis Hamilton’s 17-year-old record for most points scored in a rookie season, keeps it simple but stylish with a Fleece Hoodie and Sports 501® Jeans.

The second Levi’s® x McLaren Racing collection features a Track Trucker, Sports 501® Jeans, a Speed Trucker, Speed Jeans, Second Skin, a Fleece Hoodie, a Constructors Tee, a long-sleeve Graphic Tee, and a Speed Bandana. It launches globally on 17 October and is available for purchase on levi.com.my, the Levi’s app, and in select Levi’s stores.
